Inspired by the poetic symbolism of the fan, the Charlene 10 Years gift box draws from the brand’s inaugural exhibition theme, “Open Xuan to View the Splendor.” The box itself is shaped like a traditional fan case, with an opening structure reminiscent of a window—an homage to the brand’s name “Xuan,” meaning window in Chinese. The surface is elegantly embossed with the exhibition’s theme, “Bamboo Shadows and Elegant Fans Presented by Xuan,” in green, while the brand’s slogan is highlighted in silver, creating a tactile and visual connection to the event’s narrative.
The design’s uniqueness lies in its embodiment of the virtues associated with the fan—benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness. These values, deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy, are interpreted through the creative theme “Ren Feng,” serving as an emotional symbol for both the brand and its audience. Jewelry becomes a medium for promoting Chinese culture, blending artistry and philosophical wisdom in a tangible form.
Realized with meticulous craftsmanship, the gift box includes a main volume, a supplement in traditional accordion binding, a bamboo fan, a paper invitation, and a bamboo painting card. The design references Mi Youren’s “Wonders of Xiao and Xiang,” a celebrated painting from the Southern Song Dynasty, structuring the reading experience into four thoughtfully arranged sections. The interplay of materials—bamboo, specialty papers, and refined printing—immerses recipients in the poetic ambiance of Eastern literati, enhancing the tactile and visual journey with each layer unveiled.
Functioning as both a commemorative object and an interactive exhibition piece, the Charlene 10 Years box enables audiences to engage deeply with the brand’s story and heritage. Its presence at exhibitions in Shanghai, Beijing, and London in 2023 provided visitors with a meaningful introduction to Charlene Classic Jewellery’s history and vision, fostering a greater appreciation for Eastern artistry and values.
The project’s development, from its inception in Beijing in July 2023 to its completion and exhibition later that year, was driven by the challenge of encapsulating the “Benevolent Breeze” philosophy. The design team’s research into ancient fan cases and traditional binding methods ensured authenticity, while the careful selection of materials and structural innovations highlighted the elegance and sophistication of Oriental design. This commitment to cultural storytelling and craftsmanship earned the project a Bronze A’ Design Award in 2025, recognizing its role in elevating art, design, and quality of life.
Charlene 10 Years stands as a testament to the enduring allure of Eastern aesthetics, offering a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and cultural resonance in a single, beautifully crafted gift box.
