Deca Joins’ “Heaven and Dirt” Concert Redefines Immersive Stage Art

B’in Live crafts a poetic visual journey for Deca Joins in Taipei

The “Heaven & Dirt” concert, held in Taipei on February 23 and 24, 2024, marked a milestone for Deca Joins as their first large-scale ticketed event. B’in Live, the creative force behind the production, drew inspiration from the ancient concept of “Round Sky and Square Earth.” This idea, though scientifically outdated, symbolizes humanity’s enduring curiosity and desire to explore new perspectives—an ethos mirrored in Deca Joins’ music and the concert’s design philosophy.

The stage design stands out for its symbolic transformation of “Round Sky and Square Earth” into a tangible experience. A massive circular lighting structure hovered above the audience, while dynamic rectangular LED screens formed the “earth” below. This interplay of shapes not only echoed the concert’s theme but also enveloped the performers in a visually striking environment. The LED screens, featuring a slit style for a see-through effect, enabled creative transitions—such as concealing and revealing the band—heightening audience anticipation and engagement.

Technological innovation played a pivotal role in realizing the ambitious vision. The LED installation spanned an impressive 22 meters, maximizing visual impact within the venue’s constraints. The circular truss, equipped with TB1230 technology, could move vertically, transforming the lighting into an ever-changing art installation. These elements, combined with carefully planned rigging and stage configurations, ensured that the technical execution matched the conceptual depth of the design.

Water served as a central motif, inspired by Deca Joins’ evocative lyrics. Songs such as “Bathroom,” “Fog,” “Heavy Rain,” and “Waves” provided the structural backbone for the concert’s narrative arc. The production team synchronized lighting, video, and stage movement to reflect the emotional nuances of each piece. Notably, the band’s preference for ambient lighting over traditional spotlights fostered a poetic atmosphere, allowing the music and visuals to merge seamlessly and immerse the audience in a cohesive artistic experience.
