Satin Hair Salon Redefines Modern Elegance in Taiwan

Chiun Ju Interior Design crafts a soothing, innovative space for premium hair care.

Located in a 35-year-old building in Taiwan, Satin Hair stands as a testament to the transformative power of interior design. Chiun Ju Interior Design sought to overturn the conventional image of hair salons by introducing organic curves, warm wood grains, and a palette of soft beige-gray tones. This approach not only enhances the visual appeal but also creates a calming atmosphere that invites relaxation and comfort for every visitor.

Transparency and natural light are central to the salon’s ambiance. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass entrance amplify the sense of space, while a striking oval lighting fixture anchors the haircutting area, symbolizing balance and harmony. The curved logo wall, adorned with a mesh of white spray-painted iron, adds depth and texture, echoing the fluidity of hair and reinforcing the salon’s unique identity. Terrazzo flooring bridges vintage charm with contemporary trends, further distinguishing the space.

Material selection and craftsmanship play pivotal roles in the salon’s realization. Ironwork, finished with white spray paint, introduces both strength and softness, while wood grain flooring infuses warmth. The layout, spanning 198.3 square meters over two floors, is meticulously organized into zones—waiting, hairdressing, washing, bar, and meeting areas—connected by doorless arches that intuitively guide movement and blur boundaries. The semi-open plan ensures both privacy and openness, maximizing light and ventilation.

Functionality is seamlessly integrated into the design. Precise seat distribution and route planning ensure that even with additional equipment, the space remains uncluttered and accessible. Lighting elements, such as the semi-circular fixture in the reception and the curved light in the main area, not only enhance the rhythm of the space but also serve as memorable design signatures. These features provide a blueprint for future expansion, reflecting the brand’s commitment to both aesthetics and operational excellence.

Overcoming the challenges of renovating an older structure, Chiun Ju Interior Design reimagined the staircase for improved flow and collaborated with skilled artisans to craft the intricate ironwork and custom lighting. The result is a salon that harmonizes modernity with simplicity, offering a sensory experience that soothes and inspires. Awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, Satin Hair exemplifies how thoughtful design can elevate everyday environments, setting a new standard for commercial interiors.
