Monochrome Muse: Where Art and Living Intertwine

Gallery-inspired residence redefines shared spaces in Taiwan

Monochrome Muse, a residential building in Taiwan completed in April 2024, stands as a testament to the power of integrating art into everyday life. Designed by Xinhui Construction Co., Ltd., the project reimagines shared spaces for over 100 households, moving beyond conventional facility design to create an environment reminiscent of a contemporary art gallery. The use of a calm gray palette serves as a neutral canvas, enhancing the display of large-scale artworks and fostering an atmosphere of elegance and contemplation.

The lobby, a focal point of the design, features sweeping curves that echo the natural contours of the human eye, inviting residents into a space that encourages reflection and connection. Sculptures inspired by eyes, feathers, and teardrops are thoughtfully placed throughout, reinforcing the project's core concept of discovery and aesthetic appreciation. This seamless integration of artistic elements transforms each corridor and communal area into a visual journey, offering residents a daily encounter with creativity.

Material selection plays a crucial role in Monochrome Muse’s unique character. Architectural concrete provides a modern, unadorned backdrop, while eco-friendly wood introduces warmth and intimacy. Marble accents on walls and countertops elevate the sense of luxury without compromising sustainability. These choices not only enhance the visual appeal but also underscore the designer’s commitment to environmental responsibility and enduring beauty.

Spanning 376.8 square meters on the first floor, the development offers multifunctional shared spaces, including a reception lobby, lounge, meeting room, gym, and a vibrant children’s playroom. The animal forest-themed playroom, in particular, has garnered praise from residents for its use of natural light and stimulating colors, fostering both creativity and aesthetic development among children. The overall design balances practicality and artistry, ensuring every family member finds a space to enjoy.

Overcoming architectural challenges, such as the venue’s six-meter-high ceiling and numerous columns, required innovative solutions. The designer skillfully minimized visual clutter by matching column finishes to surrounding materials and employing strategic lighting to maintain a sense of openness. This attention to detail and technical expertise contributed to Monochrome Muse’s recognition with the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025, honoring its creative ingenuity and positive impact on quality of life.
