Chantilly: Curved Elegance in a White Mountain Haven

Wu Su Interior Design crafts a lyrical, nature-inspired residence in Taiwan

Chantilly by Chun Yu Chang - Wu Su Interior Design transforms a 14-year-old apartment into a harmonious blend of art, music, and mountain vistas, earning international recognition for its innovative approach.

Chantilly stands as a testament to the power of personalized design, where the owner's affinity for white and a love of music merge with breathtaking mountain views. The project, completed in January 2024 in Taiwan, reimagines a spacious 265-square-meter apartment, infusing it with natural elements and rhythmic curves that echo both the surrounding landscape and the flow of a musical composition. This unique approach has garnered the Bronze A' Design Award, highlighting the project's creative ingenuity and technical excellence.

The residence's foyer immediately sets the tone, with flowing lines that mirror the mountain ridges visible through expansive windows. An openwork screen maintains a sense of openness, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Throughout the home, smooth, undulating curves connect distinct spaces—living room, dining area, and passageways—while maintaining their independence, much like movements in a concert. This rhythmic guidance not only enhances visual continuity but also invites tactile exploration, uniting the home's artistic and functional aspects.

Material selection plays a pivotal role in achieving the desired atmosphere. A foundation of pure white, softened by gradients of beige, creates a minimalistic yet inviting ambiance. The use of marble, solid wood, artistic tiles, and Swedish Bolon carpet introduces texture and warmth, while UV-resistant coatings ensure the longevity of the pristine palette. Facades are thoughtfully segmented, and curved walls channel natural light deep into private areas, making the white spaces feel even lighter and more ethereal.

Functionality and accessibility are seamlessly integrated into the design. Double master bedrooms feature meticulously planned bathrooms with uniform floor heights, ensuring ease of movement and safety. Hidden sliding doors provide both acoustic privacy and spatial flexibility, disappearing into partitions when not in use. The corridor, adorned with metal tiles, serves as a photo wall, its shimmering surface echoing the softness of the home's curves and enhancing the overall artistic ambiance.

Chantilly's design narrative is deeply rooted in research and a profound understanding of the owner's lifestyle. The residence is not only a visual feast but also a space that resonates with personal stories and artistic expression. Curved forms, inspired by nature and music, transform hard materials into fluid, harmonious shapes, creating a home that feels both contemporary and timeless. As a result, Chantilly offers a sanctuary where the beauty of the outdoors is ever-present, and every detail contributes to a sense of well-being and inspiration.

Chantilly exemplifies how thoughtful design can elevate everyday living, blending art, architecture, and innovation to create a space that is both functional and poetic. The project stands as a model for integrating personal narrative, natural inspiration, and technical mastery, making it a noteworthy addition to the world of contemporary residential design.
