The Sime Darby Kia office project marks the brand’s strategic re-entry into the Taiwanese market, with a design that thoughtfully balances international standards and Taiwanese cultural elements. Stephy Teng approached the project by analyzing the company’s structure and planning a space that accommodates six distinct departments. The design employs a palette of wooden tones and bright finishes, fostering a fresh and inviting atmosphere that encourages collaboration while respecting the unique needs of each team.
Spanning two floors across 859.5 square meters, the office dedicates one level to sales and the other to administrative functions. Each floor features a well-equipped pantry, window-side lounge areas, and flexible seating arrangements for informal meetings or relaxation. Notably, the use of lower partitions—departing from the typical 140-150 cm dividers—promotes open communication and a sense of unity. The 34-person meeting room, equipped with high-speed connectivity and movable partitions, exemplifies the office’s adaptability and focus on functionality.
Material selection underscores both safety and sustainability, with system cabinets, woodwork, light steel frames, glass, and carpet all meeting fire resistance and low-formaldehyde standards. The office’s visual identity is reinforced through the use of corporate colors, wood grain, and white finishes, while gradient carpets in key areas add vibrancy and depth. Glass partitions maximize natural light, creating a bright, energetic environment that enhances productivity and well-being.
Feedback from employees highlights significant improvements in comfort, satisfaction, and work efficiency, attributed to the enhanced natural lighting and ventilation. The new layout not only elevates the company’s professional image for clients and partners but also fosters a culture of collaboration and shared purpose. The design’s flexibility ensures it can accommodate future growth, aligning with Sime Darby Kia’s long-term expansion plans in Taiwan.
Stephy Teng’s approach was informed by extensive research into the brand’s culture and international trends, resulting in a workspace that reflects core business values. The open layout, natural materials, and strategic lighting design collectively create an environment where creativity and teamwork thrive. This project, recognized with an Iron A’ Design Award in 2025, stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful, innovative office design in shaping a company’s future.
Ultimately, the Sime Darby Kia office serves as a model for integrating cultural identity, functionality, and employee well-being, setting a new standard for contemporary workspaces in Taiwan and beyond.
