Located in Taiwan and completed in March 2024, Mure Et Musc stands as a testament to the evolving narrative of industrial-style interiors. Designed for a female resident with a passion for deep, cold industrial aesthetics, the project artfully balances robust materials with inviting warmth. TWM Interior Design drew inspiration from the owner's strong personality, integrating warm hues and natural textures to soften the otherwise austere industrial palette. The result is a sophisticated living environment where hardness and softness coexist harmoniously.
The 92.5-square-meter apartment features a dynamic entrance that enhances both storage and spatial flow. A striking TV wall, finished in pore-textured diatomaceous earth, becomes a canvas for shifting light and shadow throughout the day. The interplay of high and low ceiling designs, complemented by RGB lighting, adds depth and vitality to the entrance, setting the tone for the entire residence. Dark base colors, reflective of the owner’s individuality, are balanced by crossroad brick tiles and the tactile warmth of wood veneer and glass, creating a layered, textured ambiance.
Material selection is central to the apartment’s unique character. Diatomaceous earth, crossroad bricks, ironwork, and railway tiles provide a tactile foundation, while wood-grained flooring and glass elements introduce lightness and clarity. The color palette transitions seamlessly from blacks and grays to lighter tones, all derived from the natural hues of the chosen materials. This careful layering ensures the space remains both visually striking and refined, avoiding unnecessary ornamentation in favor of pure, minimalistic design.
Functionality is as thoughtfully considered as aesthetics. The redesign involved removing a partition to expand storage and create a multi-functional dining and piano area. The foyer’s organizer was extended, maximizing storage without compromising the open-plan layout. This approach accommodates the resident’s lifestyle, allowing for ample storage while maintaining a sense of spaciousness and order. The integration of RGB lighting not only enhances the visual experience but also allows for personalized ambiance, reflecting the occupant’s mood and preferences.
Throughout the design process, TWM Interior Design navigated challenges such as maintaining good relations with neighbors during construction. By ensuring all activities were compliant and communicating openly about schedules, the team fostered a positive community environment. The finished space, awarded Bronze in the 2025 A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, exemplifies best practices in art, science, and technology, contributing to an improved quality of life.
Mure Et Musc is more than an industrial residence; it is a refined retreat that celebrates individuality, comfort, and innovation. Through the thoughtful interplay of materials, color, and light, TWM Interior Design has created a home that offers both visual intrigue and a peaceful sanctuary for its occupant.
