Quite Dew: A Sanctuary of Light and Tranquility

Innovative family living blends safety, serenity, and playful design

Quite Dew by Zhe Wei Wu and Ji Ru Lai of YL Interior Design transforms a ten-year-old apartment in Taiwan into a nurturing, light-filled haven, balancing the needs of a young family through thoughtful material choices, spatial reconfiguration, and refined aesthetic details.

Designed for a young couple welcoming their newborn, Quite Dew prioritizes health, safety, and comfort. The designers responded to the challenge of limited natural light by reimagining the apartment’s layout, removing the kitchen’s partition and introducing a sliding glass door. This strategic change allows sunlight to permeate the social spaces while containing cooking fumes, creating a brighter and more inviting atmosphere. Light wood tones, stone textures, and carefully curated lighting further enhance the sense of warmth and openness.

Unique features distinguish Quite Dew from conventional residential designs. Arched ceilings and curved walls create gentle transitions between spaces, offering a child-friendly environment that minimizes sharp edges. The inclusion of a dedicated gaming area for adults, accented with bold colors and RGB lighting, provides a private retreat without compromising the home’s overall serenity. High-quality soundproofing materials embedded throughout the apartment ensure a peaceful setting, supporting both relaxation and play.

The material palette is both practical and elegant. Artistic paints resistant to stains, solid wood veneers, and large tiles contribute to a refined yet easy-to-maintain interior. The children’s playroom features a chalkboard wall, transforming it into an educational and entertaining zone. Whiteboard paint in the hallway and ample storage solutions—such as spaces beneath wall-mounted cabinets and behind the sofa—demonstrate a commitment to functionality, supporting the family’s evolving needs.

Underlying the design is a philosophy inspired by the rhythms of family life. The project’s name, referencing “Morning Dew” and “Quiet Night,” symbolizes the nurturing care parents give their children and the peace that envelops the home at day’s end. Rounded corners and soft beige tones evoke safety and calm, while expansive floor-to-ceiling windows open the once-cramped apartment to natural light and scenic views. Every detail, from eco-friendly materials to soundproofing, reflects a holistic approach to well-being and sustainability.

Quite Dew’s excellence has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, celebrating its creative ingenuity and positive impact on quality of life. The apartment stands as a testament to how thoughtful design can transform everyday living, offering a sanctuary where children can flourish and adults can find respite—a true embodiment of understated luxury and harmonious family living.
