Mahjong Lucky Coffee stands out as a creative fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary design. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Chinese game of mahjong, Wenduan Su’s packaging concept infuses daily coffee routines with elements of play and surprise. This innovative approach not only pays homage to a beloved pastime but also caters to the growing popularity of mahjong culture among younger generations in China and beyond.

The packaging design is both visually striking and functionally unique. Bold orange-red hues, reminiscent of food colors, are paired with youthful, modernized mahjong fonts. Each coffee bag contains a month’s supply—equivalent to two hands of mahjong cards. One hand is pre-arranged as a “winning” set, symbolizing good luck for the consumer, while the other invites users to complete the set through daily coffee consumption. This interactive, blind box-style experience enhances both playability and the likelihood of repurchase, as each cup offers a new element of surprise.

Wenduan Su utilized advanced production techniques such as mold injection and origami, with prototypes crafted through 3D printing.
