The global pandemic of 2020 brought live events to a standstill, prompting artists and designers to seek new ways to connect with audiences. Mayday, a renowned band, responded by hosting Taiwan's first no-audience online concert, "Mayday Live in the Sky," which garnered over 40 million views. Building on this success, B'in Live launched the Fly to 2022 tour, symbolizing a triumphant return to live performances and setting a new standard for the concert experience.
Central to the Fly to 2022 tour is its innovative stage design, featuring a record-breaking 132-meter-wide LED screen and a 140-meter extended runway. The concert utilizes a parallel universe filming technique, employing split screens and intertwined narratives to illustrate the invisible bonds between people, even in times of physical separation. This approach not only enhances visual storytelling but also encourages audiences to reflect on the evolving nature of relationships in a post-pandemic world.
The concert's program is carefully curated to mirror society's current state, incorporating six classic songs and authentic on-location video footage. These elements convey messages of resilience, environmental awareness, and hope. The visuals highlight how, despite societal turmoil, individuals can find strength in fulfilling their responsibilities and supporting one another, while also acknowledging the environmental respite brought about by reduced human activity during lockdowns.
Audience interaction is a defining feature of the Fly to 2022 experience. Initially met with skepticism due to its "missing" theme, the concert quickly won over fans with emotionally charged performances and relatable visuals. Songs like "Braveness+Breakthrough Day" resonated deeply, offering comfort and inspiration to those facing personal challenges. The concert's design transforms feelings of isolation into a collective celebration of courage and renewal.
Behind the scenes, the production team overcame significant challenges, from adapting to rapidly changing pandemic conditions to perfecting the transition from online to in-person events. Their meticulous planning and commitment to excellence are evident in every aspect of the show, earning the project the prestigious Silver A' Design Award for its outstanding creativity and technical mastery.
Mayday Fly to 2022 stands as a testament to the healing power of music and the unifying force of innovative design. By seamlessly merging artistry, technology, and humanistic themes, the concert not only entertains but also inspires audiences to embrace hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
