Located within the Cargo Building at İstanbul Atatürk Airport, the Horizon Finance Hub stands as a testament to the harmonious integration of cultural legacy and contemporary office design. Spanning 5,500 square meters and accommodating 450 employees, the project draws inspiration from regions such as Khorasan, Hejaz, the Balkans, and Andalusia—areas rich in Turkish-Islamic architectural traditions. These influences are evident in the use of local motifs, vibrant colors, and intricate patterns, all seamlessly woven into the corporate identity of Turkish Airlines.
The design process was rooted in comprehensive research, including user interviews, observational studies, and workplace efficiency analysis. Insights from 450 employees and managers directly informed the spatial organization, resulting in an open-plan layout that encourages collaboration while providing structured zones for focused work. Flexible meeting spaces, shared workstations, and informal gathering areas support diverse work styles, fostering a sense of belonging and enhancing team spirit.
Advanced technology plays a pivotal role in the Horizon Finance Hub. Parametric design tools optimized the spatial layout for workflow efficiency and well-being, while smart office solutions—such as IoT-enabled meeting rooms, sensor-driven lighting, and noise-control systems—ensure adaptability and comfort. Ergonomic furniture, high-performance acoustic panels, and adaptive lighting systems further contribute to a productive and healthy work environment.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the project. Energy-efficient HVAC systems, recycled materials, and biophilic design elements were incorporated to minimize environmental impact and create a workspace that is both future-proof and environmentally conscious. The use of CNC-milled panels, custom wall graphics, and digitally printed glass partitions not only reinforces cultural identity but also showcases innovative fabrication techniques.
Overcoming significant challenges, the design team addressed physical constraints such as low ceiling heights and shared departmental spaces by removing the closed ceiling and relocating mechanical systems, thereby maximizing vertical space and enhancing the perception of openness. Modular and prefabricated construction methods allowed for rapid installation and adaptability, ensuring the workspace can evolve with changing needs.
Horizon Finance Hub exemplifies how tradition and innovation can coexist within a corporate setting. By prioritizing employee experience, cultural integration, and technological advancement, the project sets a new standard for workplace design. Recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, this office environment not only elevates productivity and collaboration but also serves as a model for future corporate spaces seeking to balance heritage with progress.
