Shield-Inspired Reception Center Redefines Home Protection

Up Town New Interior Design crafts a fortress-like landmark in Taiwan

Ls Twin Stars by Up Town New Interior Design transforms the concept of a reception center with a striking shield-shaped facade, symbolizing security and warmth for future homeowners.

The Ls Twin Stars reception center stands as a bold architectural statement in Taiwan, designed by Up Town New Interior Design. Drawing inspiration from the idea of ‘home protection,’ the building’s exterior features layered geometric shields, evoking both a fortress and a welcoming sanctuary. This innovative approach sets the tone for visitors, instilling a sense of trust and safety from the very first glance. The use of semi-reflective materials and linear lighting not only enhances visual impact but also communicates a silent promise of security to all who enter.

Distinctive in both form and function, the facade utilizes wood wool cement boards and flexible polyurethane coatings, materials chosen for their resilience against seismic activity and their tactile appeal. The ground floor offers an open parking area, while the ceiling’s geometric design adds depth and intrigue. Inside, concentric walls radiate from the central model display, reinforcing the idea of ‘home as the center’ and emphasizing stability, warmth, and inclusivity.

The realization of this design relies on advanced construction techniques and thoughtful material selection. The exterior’s wood wool cement boards, paired with flexible PU coatings, allow for necessary expansion and contraction, ensuring longevity. Metal lacquer on the outer walls creates a shimmering, modern finish, while interiors clad in wood and stone veneer provide comfort and reinforce the theme of protection. This harmonious blend of softness and strength is further enhanced by natural light and greenery, creating an inviting atmosphere.

Functionality is at the heart of Ls Twin Stars. The first floor accommodates a parking area, a model display space with curved walls, and an accessible booth for visitors with mobility challenges. The second floor features a discussion area, a show-home, and a tea bar, all benefiting from expansive east-facing windows that flood the space with daylight. This thoughtful layout ensures a seamless visitor experience, blending practicality with aesthetic appeal.

Overcoming significant engineering and regulatory challenges, the project employs a robust steel structure system to ensure stability above the parking area. Secondary beams distribute structural loads, mitigating vibrations and seismic impacts. Notably, Ls Twin Stars is the first reception center in New Taipei City to fully comply with the latest fire safety standards, integrating comprehensive protection systems that meet permanent building codes.

Recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, Ls Twin Stars exemplifies the evolution of architectural design—where safety, innovation, and visual storytelling converge. The project not only redefines the reception center typology but also sets a new benchmark for community-focused, resilient architecture in seismic regions.

“The materials of a shield trace back to their origins, evolving from wood and iron to modern composites, becoming lighter yet stronger,” notes the design team. This philosophy underpins the entire project, ensuring that every visitor feels both protected and welcomed—a true testament to the enduring power of thoughtful design.
