Elto Consultancy’s approach to U Magic draws inspiration from the foundational philosophy of Aristotle’s First Principle, breaking down complex design challenges into elemental components before reassembling them into a harmonious whole. This methodology underpins every aspect of the institution, from its architectural flow to its ambient atmosphere, ensuring that each detail contributes to a seamless and immersive experience.
Central to the project’s uniqueness is the deliberate blurring of boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. The design introduces a new spatial order by reconfiguring volumes and sequences, allowing visitors to transition effortlessly through areas that feel both distinct and interconnected. This spatial choreography is further enhanced by the interplay of light and shadow, which crafts a narrative of mystery and romance throughout the environment.
The realization of U Magic’s vision relies on a sophisticated balance of lines and curves, with overlapping forms that evoke both movement and tranquility. A striking spiral staircase connects the two main floors, adapting ingeniously to the building’s original constraints while serving as a minimalist, avant-garde focal point. This feature not only improves circulation but also offers a fresh sensory experience, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to both function and aesthetics.
Technical specifications highlight the thoughtful integration of natural materials, biophilic elements, and a lighting scheme set at a warm 3500K color temperature. This careful selection avoids the harshness of clinical lighting, instead enveloping patients and staff in a soothing, layered ambiance. The design’s patient-centric philosophy is evident in every detail, from workflow efficiency to the creation of tranquil, healing spaces that support holistic well-being.
Research and creative exploration play a pivotal role in U Magic’s development. The concept of time is treated as a flexible, dynamic element, with spatial transitions designed to foster moments of connection and reflection. Overcoming challenges such as structural limitations and the need for a welcoming atmosphere, the design team—led by chief designer Chloe Liew—demonstrates resourcefulness and ingenuity, qualities recognized by the project’s Bronze A' Design Award in 2025.
U Magic exemplifies how innovative design can elevate medical environments, transforming them into sanctuaries that nurture both body and mind. By integrating art, technology, and patient-centered principles, Elto Consultancy sets a new standard for healing spaces, inspiring future projects in the realm of medical aesthetics and beyond.
