Scarlet: Nature-Inspired Packaging for Sanitary Pads

Scarlet stands out in the feminine hygiene market by transforming packaging into an emotional experience. Inspired by the tranquility of nature, the design features hand and computer-generated watercolor illustrations of serene plains, flowers, and trees. This visual approach aims to evoke relaxation and comfort, qualities often overlooked in traditional sanitary pad packaging.

The unique artistic direction of Scarlet responds directly to consumer needs. According to market research conducted during the project, most existing products in the Iranian market lack imagery that promotes a sense of calm. By introducing gentle, poetic visuals, Scarlet not only differentiates itself on the shelf but also addresses the emotional well-being of its users during a sensitive time.

Technically, the design is realized through a blend of hand-drawn and digital illustration, printed on polyethylene packaging film. The compact dimensions—110 mm wide, 80 mm deep, and 96 mm high—ensure practicality while maintaining visual impact. The packaging’s tactile and visual qualities are intended to catch the eye and offer reassurance at the point of purchase.

One of the main challenges faced by Masoud Najafi Amirkiasar was balancing aesthetic appeal with functional requirements. The packaging needed to be both visually striking and practical, standing out among competitors while delivering on the promise of comfort. The result is a harmonious blend of art and utility, reflecting the designer’s commitment to both beauty and user experience.

Scarlet’s innovative approach has not gone unnoticed. The design was awarded Silver in the prestigious A' Packaging Design Award in 2025, recognized for its technical excellence and artistic merit. This accolade underscores the impact of thoughtful, user-centered design in everyday products, setting a new standard for emotional resonance in packaging.
