The Tiger Club, designed by Guoliang Du, draws inspiration from Qingdao’s distinctive cityscape, where European architectural influences intermingle with traditional Eastern layouts. This fusion reflects the city’s identity as a crossroads of Eurasian culture, and the club’s design captures this spirit by marrying Italian romanticism with the poetic elegance of Oriental courtyards. The result is a space that feels both historically rich and refreshingly modern, resonating with visitors through its thoughtful composition and cultural references.
What sets the Tiger Club apart is its ability to embody the “external spirit” of architecture, as described by Hegel, transforming it into a creative and inviting environment. The design features romantic Italian town elements—such as round arches and spiral staircases—paired with the serene order of Eastern spatial arrangements. These details are not merely decorative; they serve as a bridge between the bustling vibrancy of European towns and the tranquil beauty of Chinese courtyards, resulting in a space that feels both dynamic and contemplative.
The realization of this vision required meticulous craftsmanship and innovative use of materials. The club incorporates concrete, steel, glass, and luxury stones, alongside energy-saving technologies, to achieve both aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency. Notable features include Taishan double-layer gypsum board for acoustic control, solid wood composite parquet flooring, and custom furnishings crafted from imported leather and natural marble. Each element is carefully selected to enhance the sensory experience and uphold the club’s commitment to quality.
The design process presented significant challenges, particularly in achieving the complex forms of the round arches, spiral staircases, and uniquely shaped roofs. Precision in structural composition was essential to maintain the integrity of both Eastern and Western design principles. The integration of advanced construction techniques and a keen focus on detail allowed the team to overcome these hurdles, resulting in a seamless blend of tradition and innovation.
Since its completion in April 2024, the Tiger Club has garnered acclaim for its exceptional design, earning the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design for 2025. This recognition underscores the project’s success in delivering a space that not only delights aesthetically but also fosters a sense of cultural connection and wonder. The Tiger Club stands as a beacon of creative expertise, inviting visitors to experience the beauty of East and West in perfect harmony.
The Tiger Club’s achievement highlights the power of design to transcend boundaries, offering a model for future projects seeking to celebrate cultural diversity through architecture. As cities continue to evolve, such spaces serve as reminders of the richness that emerges when tradition and innovation are woven together with care and vision.
