Quzhou Landmark: Tradition Meets Sustainable Urban Innovation

Iconic mixed-use towers redefine Quzhou’s skyline with green architecture

Inspired by ancient Eastern philosophy and Quzhou’s cultural heritage, Xiyao Wang’s Quzhou Landmark project harmoniously blends modern technology with natural landscapes, setting a new standard for sustainable urban design.

The Quzhou Landmark project, envisioned by Xiyao Wang, stands as a testament to the fusion of tradition and innovation in contemporary architecture. Drawing from the Eastern philosophy of “Heaven as Courtesy, Earth as Culture,” the design seeks to create harmony between humanity and nature. This approach is deeply rooted in Quzhou’s historical identity and unique terrain, resulting in a mixed-use development that honors the past while embracing future-forward technology.

Central to the project are two striking towers positioned along the Quzhou Station axis, forming a distinctive silhouette on the city’s skyline. These towers are not merely architectural statements; they serve as functional hubs for office and retail spaces, enhancing the city’s economic and social vitality. What distinguishes the design is its seamless integration with an undulating green landscape, echoing the natural contours of Quzhou and fostering a sense of place.

Sustainability is at the heart of the Quzhou Landmark. The project incorporates green roofs and vertical landscapes, which significantly reduce energy consumption and improve environmental comfort. These features exemplify a commitment to ecological balance, transforming the towers into living structures that contribute to urban biodiversity and well-being. The use of concrete and steel ensures structural integrity, while advanced vertical greening technologies set new benchmarks for eco-friendly high-rise design.

The design process was informed by extensive research, including site studies, qualitative analysis, and community engagement. Input from local historians, urban planners, and residents revealed a profound connection between the community and its environment. This insight guided the development of a design that not only meets modern needs but also fosters cultural pride and sustainable growth, influencing both society and urban planning in Quzhou.

Overcoming challenges such as integrating traditional values with contemporary requirements and navigating local regulations required innovative thinking and adaptability. The result is a visionary urban development that reinterprets heritage through a modern lens, offering a dynamic and livable environment where architecture and nature exist in continuous dialogue.

Quzhou Landmark has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design for 2025, celebrating its creative ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can make cities more resilient, sustainable, and inspiring for generations to come.
