Innovative rural architecture redefines countryside living near Chengdu

Located on the outskirts of Chengdu, Ruman Origin Farmstead responds to the growing desire among urban dwellers for a peaceful retreat from city life. The project, designed by Jianshan Wangshui Planning and Design, draws inspiration from the migration trends and the longing for a serene countryside experience. By integrating rustic charm with modern amenities, the farmstead serves multiple functions, including accommodation, exhibition, social gatherings, and residential living, making it a versatile addition to the region’s architectural landscape.

The farmstead’s unique layout features three distinct courtyards, each symbolizing a different era of architectural thought. The first courtyard, constructed entirely from wood, pays homage to the historical and cultural heritage of Western Sichuan. The second courtyard introduces a modern, multifunctional restaurant space, reflecting contemporary openness and adaptability. The third courtyard, an independent dwelling, seamlessly merges traditional and modern elements, embodying the pursuit of a sustainable future. This progression from past to present and into the future is a defining characteristic of the project.

Technological innovation is at the heart of Ruman Origin Farmstead. The design incorporates energy-efficient solutions such as solar photovoltaic panels and ground source heat pumps, significantly reducing the building’s environmental footprint. Additional features, including raised floors, rammed earth facades, and double-layer hollow door and window systems, further enhance energy conservation. These advancements demonstrate how traditional construction methods can coexist with cutting-edge sustainability practices.
