Atlas stands out as a thoughtfully crafted solution for families seeking a secure and adaptable sleeping environment for their children. Designed in Istanbul and completed in July 2024, this bed addresses the evolving needs of children from infancy through adolescence. The design’s inspiration stems from the universal desire for children to enjoy long, high-quality, and safe sleep, while also accommodating the comfort of parents who may need to sleep alongside their child during early years.

What sets Atlas apart is its enveloping form, which conveys a sense of security and inclusion. The bed’s generous dimensions allow for co-sleeping when necessary, while attachable safety barriers provide additional protection as children grow and seek independence. Its versatility extends into teenage years, ensuring longevity and value. The use of soft colors and rounded lines not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also minimizes the risk of injury, making it suitable for various interior styles and age groups.

Harun Ayaydin’s commitment to safety is evident in the meticulous choice of materials and construction techniques. Atlas is crafted entirely from durable oak wood, finished with water-based varnish free from harmful lead components. The design adheres to strict safety standards: no sharp edges, no hazardous gaps between slats, and no cutouts that could pose risks. Specially dimensioned knobby feet and a supportive MDF base ensure even weight distribution, accommodating both children and adults without compromising structural integrity.

Underlying the design is extensive research into the challenges families face when transitioning babies from shared sleep to independent rest. Atlas addresses these needs by allowing for the attachment of necessary equipment during the newborn phase and supporting gradual independence as the child matures. The ergonomic proportions and thoughtful features reflect a deep understanding of both parental and child requirements, making Atlas a standout in multifunctional children’s furniture.
