Scarlet Threads stands as a testament to the power of color in interior design, where Hao Chun Cha masterfully employs a palette of dark hues punctuated by scarlet accents. This approach not only instills tranquility and stability but also introduces dynamic visual interest. The choice of red, inspired by the owner's vibrant character, serves as a subtle yet omnipresent expression of individuality, breaking away from the clinical white that dominates the owner's professional environment as a doctor.
What sets this residential interior apart is its deliberate contrast to the sterile atmosphere of a hospital. Dark furnishings and decor provide a visual respite, while red elements—most notably in the lighting and sofa—capture the owner's spirited nature. The lighting design, featuring RGB color capabilities, allows for mood customization, ensuring the space remains lively and adaptable to the resident's emotional needs. Even the cabinetry lighting echoes this theme, symbolizing the duality of the owner's rational and passionate sides.
Precision and cultural heritage are woven into the very fabric of the design. Japanese tiles, chosen for their exact installation and durability, pay homage to the owner's family background and the meticulous standards valued in the medical profession. This attention to detail extends to the master bedroom's headboard wall, reinforcing a sense of order and harmony throughout the apartment.
Sustainability is a core principle in Scarlet Threads. All materials are non-toxic and selected for their durability, promoting a healthier environment for both residents and construction teams. The use of iron in furniture construction enhances stability and longevity, reducing maintenance needs and supporting an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Located on the 21st floor of a Kaohsiung residential tower, the project was completed between September 2023 and March 2024. The collaboration between Hao Chun Cha and Chien-Lin Lee has resulted in a living space that not only meets the functional demands of modern urban life but also celebrates personal expression and well-being.
Scarlet Threads has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, honoring its creative ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements. The project exemplifies how thoughtful design can make the world a better place, one home at a time.
