The watch pays homage to Louis Moinet’s legacy as a pioneer in celestial observation and reflects Jean Marie Schaller’s passion for collecting rare lunar meteorites. This synthesis of history and innovation results in an astronomical moon display that is both visually striking and mechanically advanced.

Central to the Black Moon’s uniqueness is its use of two genuine lunar meteorites—Dhofar 457 and Gadamis 005—expertly cut and set on a slightly domed disc to represent the new and full moon. These rare specimens, sourced through collaboration with meteorite hunters, introduce a tangible connection to the cosmos. The astronomical moon complication, powered by a sophisticated 135-tooth gear, ensures remarkable precision, deviating by only one day every 122 years.

The watch’s construction showcases advanced horological engineering. Housed in a polished and satin-finished grade 5 titanium case weighing just 18 grams, the Black Moon features a domed sapphire crystal that accentuates the depth of the aventurine dial. Floating indexes and luminescent hands enhance both the aesthetic and functionality, while the integrated strap and openworked lugs contribute to the modern, refined silhouette.

Functionality is at the forefront of the Black Moon’s design. An index at three o’clock, framed in red, allows for intuitive reading of the current lunar phase, while a sector seconds subdial at nine o’clock, inspired by a compass, adds a dynamic visual element.
