Holy Sky: A Sacred Home Inspired by Light and Faith

Christian symbolism and sustainable design shape a unique living space

Jyun Shen Zeng’s Holy Sky residence reimagines spiritual architecture, blending sacred symbolism with environmental consciousness for a modern Christian family in Taiwan.

Holy Sky, a residential project by Jyun Shen Zeng, stands as a testament to the power of design inspired by faith and sustainability. Completed in Taiwan in 2024, this 130-square-meter home draws deeply from Christian iconography, transforming everyday living into an experience imbued with spiritual meaning and environmental responsibility. The project’s recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025 highlights its creative ingenuity and commitment to quality of life improvements.

Central to Holy Sky’s concept is the interplay of light and form. The design echoes the imagery of rays descending from heaven and the cross, using simple materials and a restrained palette to evoke a sacred atmosphere. Floor boundary lines extend from the TV wall to the living area, forming a subtle cross motif, while ceiling lighting mimics heavenly beams, converging in a circular corridor that links the home’s three main doors. This thoughtful arrangement creates a harmonious and contemplative environment, inviting reflection and tranquility.

Material selection and construction methods reflect a strong commitment to sustainability. Green-certified paints and durable finishes were chosen to minimize environmental impact and reduce maintenance needs. Flexible cabinetry designs allow for future adaptation and reuse, further supporting eco-friendly principles. According to the designer, these choices not only benefit the environment but also enhance the potential for recycling and long-term usability within the home.

Spatial efficiency and user experience were prioritized throughout the design process. An open-plan layout maximizes the use of every square meter, overlapping functional areas to foster interaction among residents. The use of consistent materials and colors across surfaces—from special wall paints to coordinated cabinetry and flooring—establishes visual unity and a sense of calm. This approach ensures that each area feels connected, drawing attention to the overall harmony of the space.

Addressing the needs of a multi-generational family, Holy Sky incorporates intuitive color schemes and natural movement flows to enhance accessibility and comfort. The circular corridor not only connects rooms but also softens transitions, creating gentle corners and flexible spaces for diverse activities. The lighting design, featuring gradient effects and linear bars, adds depth and a sense of the divine, reinforcing the home’s spiritual narrative.

Holy Sky exemplifies how thoughtful design can elevate daily living by merging religious inspiration with sustainable innovation. Jyun Shen Zeng’s project demonstrates that a home can be both a sanctuary and a model of responsible design, offering a blueprint for spaces that nurture the soul and respect the planet.
