Located in Taiwan, Brocade Grace is a 152-square-meter apartment that exemplifies how thoughtful design can balance privacy, openness, and individual character. Ting Ying Ho of Zh-Mi Interior Design approached the project with the intention of creating a versatile space tailored to a three-person family, each member’s personality subtly woven into the fabric of the home. The design’s inspiration stems from the concept of each area acting as a thread, collectively forming a cohesive and beautiful living environment.
The entryway sets the tone for the residence, with a deep, spacious corridor that enhances intimacy and provides ample storage. This transition space not only offers a sense of safety but also establishes a ceremonial feeling upon arrival. The circulation within the apartment is carefully orchestrated through the use of a round table and a diagonally cut kitchen island, which serves as the social and functional heart of the home. These elements ensure smooth movement and avoid sharp corners, reflecting a commitment to both practicality and comfort.
Material selection and color palette play a pivotal role in expressing the family’s diverse tastes. Italian slab tiles, natural stone, and artistic paint are combined with metal fixtures and woodwork, creating a layered and harmonious aesthetic. The base tones of black, white, and beige are enlivened by accents of blue and pink—blue echoing the host’s and son’s affinity for nature and sports, while pink, unexpectedly favored by the male owner, appears in playful details like the baseball rack and home office decor. The result is a space that feels both sophisticated and deeply personal.
Functionality is seamlessly integrated throughout the design. An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) and dehumidifier ensure optimal living conditions, while custom storage solutions cater to the family’s needs. The living room is designed for relaxation and social gatherings, the wardrobe offers tailored organization for jewelry and personal items, and the master bedroom features a suspended TV for the ideal viewing angle. Each space is crafted to support daily life while celebrating individual interests, such as the son’s passion for baseball.
The project overcame significant technical challenges, particularly in the junctions of varied materials and the construction of hidden doors. The use of tiles and marble required precise adjustments and stainless steel trims to achieve a refined finish. The hidden door and TV wall, crafted from heavy slab tiles, demanded meticulous engineering to maintain alignment and structural integrity. These solutions highlight the designer’s dedication to both aesthetic cohesion and durability.
Brocade Grace stands as a testament to the power of design in shaping meaningful living experiences. By harmonizing modern and traditional elements, and prioritizing both beauty and function, Zh-Mi Interior Design has created a home that not only reflects the unique stories of its residents but also sets a benchmark for contemporary residential design.
Recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, Brocade Grace exemplifies how artful interiors can improve quality of life, blending innovation, craftsmanship, and emotional resonance into a singular, inspiring vision.
