Shine Biomedical’s new office, completed in July 2024, stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in fostering productivity and well-being. Drawing from the clean lines and naturalistic elements of Scandinavian style, designer Kun-Sen Chang has created a space that balances comfort with functionality. The use of glass partitions and large green walls not only maximizes natural light but also brings a sense of vitality, reflecting the company’s innovative ethos in the beauty and biotech sectors.
Distinctive features set this office apart from conventional workspaces. Large color blocks and transparent glass partitions create a warm, open, and grand atmosphere, while frosted glass in meeting rooms ensures privacy without sacrificing brightness. The open-top ceiling structure enhances vertical spaciousness, and the integration of woven carpets and wood grain patterns adds depth and elegance. Custom lighting and equipment solutions in meeting rooms reduce visual clutter, maintaining a cohesive and clean design throughout.
Material selection plays a crucial role in achieving the desired ambiance. Woven carpets, wood veneer, eco-friendly paint, and metal panels are combined to evoke the simplicity and rustic charm of Scandinavian interiors. Pastel-toned furniture introduces vibrancy and a playful touch, contrasting with the calm, low-saturation color palette. Carefully designed lighting further underscores the professionalism expected in a leading biomedical enterprise.
The office spans 545.4 square meters and is meticulously zoned to enhance both guest experience and employee workflow. The reception area features semi-low sofas and a striking brand image wall crafted from dark-toned metal, juxtaposed with wood textures and woven materials. A combined lounge and refreshment area offers a relaxed environment, while the main office area benefits from abundant natural light streaming in from three sides. Dynamic advertisements, a company history wall, and strategic spatial turns reinforce the brand’s identity and culture at every step.
Functionality and flexibility are central to the design’s success. The open layout encourages interaction and collaboration, while sliding glass doors provide adaptable privacy when needed. Employees benefit from bright, comfortable workspaces that reduce eye strain, and the business owner appreciates the seamless flow and strong first impressions created by the spatial arrangement. The design overcomes the challenge of a complex, lightning-shaped floor plan by using key turning points to highlight brand values and facilitate smooth transitions between zones.
Shine Biomedical’s office, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2025, exemplifies how Scandinavian minimalism and innovative planning can transform a workspace into a dynamic, welcoming environment. The project not only meets professional and industrial standards but also contributes positively to employee satisfaction and brand image, setting a benchmark for future office designs in the biomedical sector.
