Framed Time stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of neo-classical design, thoughtfully adapted for modern living. Set within a renovated apartment in Taiwan, the project was completed in July 2023 and reflects the client's desire for both softness and luxurious elegance. The design team, led by Chun-Chiao Wu and Duen-Kai Jeng, embraced the principles of symmetry and balance, making light the central element. This approach allows natural daylight to permeate every corner, while a carefully curated palette of warm grays and subtle contrasts creates a serene, inviting atmosphere.
One of the defining features of this residence is its open-plan layout, where the dining area and TV wall are seamlessly unified. This spatial arrangement fosters a sense of flow and connectivity, enhanced by simple lines and boutique-inspired details. The entrance, adorned in dark tones, offers a striking first impression, while an openwork vista introduces beams of light that blend dark and light hues, adding depth and harmony to the space. The interplay of materials—slab tiles, metal trims, glass, and eco-friendly paints—further elevates the tactile and visual experience.
Technical ingenuity is evident throughout the project. The apartment, spanning 99.1 square meters on the 13th floor, was reconfigured to maximize natural light and social interaction. The living and dining areas are subtly divided by a sofa, and the kitchen island is strategically placed for both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Large windows and screened openings ensure that sunlight floods the interior, while linear lighting and delicate trims evoke the softness characteristic of classical design, even after sunset.
Collaboration between the client and design team was key to achieving the desired ambiance. Initial differences in color preferences were resolved through professional dialogue, resulting in a harmonious blend of personal taste and stylistic coherence. Attention to detail is evident in elements such as the kitchen island alignment, metal accents, and display cabinets reminiscent of boutique windows. These features ensure that the space is not only visually appealing but also highly functional for both individuals and gatherings.
The project also overcame significant spatial challenges, particularly in the master bedroom and bathroom, where careful planning was required to accommodate fixed piping and optimize furniture placement. The result is a customized private retreat that aligns with the occupant's lifestyle. Morning sunlight filtering through gauze curtains, balanced trim proportions, and the use of rhythmic grille lighting all contribute to a tranquil, luxurious environment that exemplifies timeless beauty.
Framed Time has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, celebrating its creative ingenuity and contribution to quality of life. The project not only showcases technical and artistic excellence but also demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform everyday living into an experience of elegance and comfort.
