Floating Elegance: Adrian Hung’s T Haven Apartment

Minimalist staircase design transforms Hong Kong family home

Adrian Hung’s T Haven project redefines apartment living in Hong Kong, blending minimalist aesthetics with functional elegance through a striking floating staircase centerpiece.

Adrian Hung’s T Haven stands as a testament to the power of minimalist and contemporary design in residential architecture. Located in Hong Kong, this 4,900-square-foot family home is characterized by its clean lines, neutral color palette, and a focus on functional spaces. The design draws inspiration from the seamless integration of art and architecture, with the staircase serving as both a practical element and a sculptural focal point. Smooth, curved wooden panels and open risers create a sense of movement, while the staircase’s organic form adds a touch of sophistication to the overall space.

The floating staircase distinguishes itself with horizontal wooden treads anchored to a central dark metal stringer, producing the illusion of weightlessness. A gracefully curved wooden handrail enhances the staircase’s visual appeal, guiding the eye upward and reinforcing the home’s contemporary ethos. This central feature not only connects the apartment’s three levels but also serves as a gallery, inviting visitors to appreciate curated art pieces displayed throughout the living area.

Functionality is at the heart of T Haven’s layout. The entrance, positioned on the middle floor, acts as a central hub, providing easy access to communal spaces such as the gym and living room. Downstairs, guests can enjoy the kitchen, dining area, play area, and tearoom, while the upper floor is reserved for private quarters, ensuring tranquility and privacy for the residents. The thoughtful zoning of spaces enhances both the flow and usability of the apartment, catering to the dynamic needs of a modern family.

Material selection and lighting play pivotal roles in achieving a harmonious atmosphere. The interplay of natural wood, metal accents, and soft lighting creates a warm and inviting environment. A bonsai tree in the entrance foyer introduces a calming, natural element, symbolizing balance and harmony—a nod to the project’s underlying research on blending nature with modernity. This approach fosters a serene ambiance, making the home both welcoming and restful.

T Haven’s innovative design has not gone unnoticed. Awarded Silver in the 2025 A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, the project is celebrated for its technical excellence and artistic vision. Adrian Hung’s work exemplifies how practical elements, such as a staircase, can be elevated to sculptural art, enriching daily life and setting new standards for luxury apartment living in urban environments.

The T Haven project, completed between May 2023 and September 2024, demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform residential spaces into immersive experiences that balance beauty, comfort, and functionality.
