Yu Ren’s Dean pet cage challenges this norm by reimagining the structure to provide ample headroom and freedom of movement. The design’s core philosophy centers on reducing the sense of “imprisonment” and coldness associated with standard cages, instead fostering a more caring and considerate environment for pets.

Dean distinguishes itself through thoughtful features that blend functionality with aesthetics. The cage’s interior is spacious enough to allow dogs to sit, stand, and lie down comfortably, addressing a common pain point in existing products. A unique roof-openable modal window enhances ventilation and enables easy interaction between pet and owner, while the sleek, modern appearance ensures the cage complements contemporary home interiors.

Constructed from strong, corrosion-resistant metal square tubing, Dean is built for durability and safety. The non-toxic, eco-friendly coating ensures pets are protected even if they chew on the bars, and the smooth surface prevents accidental scratches. The addition of 360-degree rotating, lockable casters allows for effortless mobility and secure placement, making it convenient for indoor use without sacrificing stability.

Usability is further enhanced by a front door for easy entry and exit, and a removable tray that simplifies cleaning and maintenance. These practical details reflect a deep understanding of both canine habits and owner needs, resulting from extensive research into the evolving role of dogs as family members and the shortcomings of current market offerings.

The Dean pet cage, measuring 950mm wide, 680mm deep, and 980mm high, was developed in Zhengzhou over the course of a year, culminating in September 2024. Its innovative approach and attention to detail earned it the Iron A’ Design Award in 2025, recognizing its contribution to improving the lives of pets and their owners through thoughtful design.
