The Anima armchair stands as a testament to the harmonious relationship between nature and design. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant biodiversity of Brazil, Pietro Luigi Verona sought to encapsulate the uplifting sensations experienced in natural environments. The armchair’s flowing lines and organic curves evoke the gentle embrace of the outdoors, inviting users to relax and reconnect with nature’s serenity.
What distinguishes the Anima armchair is its entirely manual creative process, beginning with hand-drawn sketches and culminating in a meticulously crafted wooden prototype. The design was refined using 3D scanning technology, enabling precise digital replication and facilitating production with a five-axis CNC machine. This approach ensures that the armchair’s organic lines remain authentic, reflecting the intricate beauty found in Brazil’s ecosystems.
Constructed from Tauari Brazilian reforestation wood and upholstered with natural cotton fabric, the Anima armchair emphasizes sustainability and comfort. The choice of materials not only supports environmental responsibility but also enhances the tactile and visual appeal of the piece. The chair’s dimensions—880 mm wide, 900 mm deep, and 700 mm high—offer ample space for relaxation, while its sculptural form provides both visual and emotional comfort.
The design process was deeply informed by immersive research, with close observation and sketching of native plants and animals. This hands-on approach allowed for a nuanced understanding of the elements that contribute to nature’s allure, which was then translated into the armchair’s playful and symmetrical features. Overcoming the challenge of preserving the handmade quality in the final product, the team successfully merged traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques.
Recognized for its innovation and artistry, the Anima armchair was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2025. This accolade highlights the chair’s exceptional technical and artistic qualities, as well as its ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder. The Anima armchair not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also as a celebration of Brazil’s natural heritage and the enduring connection between humanity and the environment.
By seamlessly integrating nature-inspired aesthetics with sustainable materials and advanced technology, the Anima armchair offers a distinctive and uplifting addition to contemporary interiors, inviting users to experience the soul of the Brazilian landscape from the comfort of their homes.
