Immersive Art Gallery Bridges Literature with Film and Television

The 34th edition of the Hong Kong Book Fair stood out as a major highlight in the city’s summer cultural calendar. With over 760 exhibitors and more than 600 events, the fair attracted 990,000 visitors in just seven days. Themed around Film and Television Literature, the event featured an art gallery that showcased iconic works by renowned writers, directors, and classic adaptations, fostering a deeper appreciation for storytelling across multiple formats.

Central to the fair’s success was its museum-like Art Gallery Exhibition. Informative display panels introduced visitors to celebrated literary authors, while interactive elements such as a literature gallery game, an eBook kiosk, and an AI photo booth brought favorite book characters to life. A Mini Theatre, equipped with a floor-mounted LED screen and reflective flared walls, immersed attendees in classic movie scenes, seamlessly blending text and imagery for a truly unique encounter.

Sustainability and thoughtful design played key roles in the event’s realization. The 900-square-meter gallery utilized reusable aluminum structures and modular display systems, complemented by glass-top showcases. The integration of Chinese calligraphy and diverse display methods highlighted antique books, vintage manuscripts, and multimedia content, creating a visually rich and educational environment. Strategic placement outside Exhibition Hall 3C-E ensured high visibility and accessibility for all attendees.

Extensive research and careful planning underpinned the event’s success. The Hktdc Creative Department curated a wide range of materials, including official posters and movie clips, to support the annual theme. Navigating copyright and intellectual property requirements required close collaboration with the event team, ensuring a cohesive and legally compliant exhibition. Traffic studies and strategic layout planning further enhanced visitor flow, preventing bottlenecks and maximizing enjoyment.

The Hong Kong Book Fair 2024 not only celebrated literature but also demonstrated the power of innovative event design in connecting communities. By bridging the worlds of books, film, and television, the fair offered a memorable and enriching experience for all. Its recognition with the Iron A’ Design Award in 2025 underscores its excellence in integrating creativity, practicality, and industry best practices.
