The Haidongqing gas detection drone stands out for its unique blend of nature-inspired aesthetics and cutting-edge technology. The design, reminiscent of a falcon’s streamlined form, incorporates dynamic lines that evoke speed and agility. This visual language is not merely aesthetic; it reflects the drone’s high maneuverability, enabling rapid deployment and stable operation even in challenging industrial environments.
Guangpeng Yue and the design team prioritized modularity and user-friendliness. The drone integrates advanced gas sensors and a real-time data transmission system, ensuring accurate detection and immediate feedback. Its intuitive interface allows professional operators and emergency responders to quickly assess environmental safety and respond to hazards, significantly reducing response times in critical situations.
Manufactured using advanced 3D printing, CNC precision machining, and carbon fiber composite molding, the Haidongqing achieves a balance between lightweight construction and robust durability. High-precision automated assembly of sensors and electronics further enhances reliability and production efficiency, making the drone suitable for both routine monitoring and urgent rescue missions.
Technical specifications include a compact frame—480 mm wide, 400 mm long, and 100 mm high—optimized for maneuverability in complex terrains. The intelligent control system enables remote operation via handheld devices, while integrated alarms and data displays provide real-time situational awareness. This combination of features positions the Haidongqing as a versatile tool for industrial safety, environmental monitoring, and emergency response.
The project, developed at LuXun Academy of Fine Arts between May and June 2022, addressed significant challenges such as sensor integration, detection accuracy, and navigation in difficult environments. The team’s research and technical innovation culminated in a drone that balances endurance with agility, setting a new standard for gas detection technology.
Recognition for the Haidongqing’s ingenuity came in the form of the Bronze A' Futuristic Design Award in 2025. This accolade highlights the drone’s contribution to improving quality of life through the integration of best practices in art, science, and technology, and underscores its potential to make industrial environments safer and more sustainable.
With its fusion of biomimicry, advanced engineering, and user-centric design, the Haidongqing drone exemplifies the future of industrial safety and environmental stewardship.
