At the entrance of the Victor Hydraulics exhibition hall in Shaoyang City, China, a dramatic 20-meter cantilevered block immediately commands attention. Supported by a single, custom-engineered steel column, this architectural gesture not only demonstrates technical prowess but also sets an assertive tone for the visitor experience. The design’s aggressive stance is intended to evoke awe and stimulate reflection, aligning with the company’s reputation for strength and innovation in the global hydraulics industry.
Material selection plays a pivotal role in expressing the brand’s identity. Italian natural travertine and woodgrain stone form the core palette, chosen for their weathered textures and enduring qualities. Travertine, with its naturally formed holes and veins, symbolizes resilience and timelessness, while the gentle lines of woodgrain stone evoke a sense of poetic continuity. These materials are used to wrap structural columns, echoing the solidity of ancient temples and reinforcing the exhibition hall’s narrative of strength and permanence.
Spatial organization within the hall is meticulously crafted to guide visitors through a journey of discovery. Two imposing fan-shaped facades at the entrance obscure the rear space, focusing attention on the cantilevered block and a delicately displayed high-pressure plunger pump. This juxtaposition of robust geometry and refined industrial product highlights the dual nature of Victor Hydraulics—both powerful and precise. The flow of movement is choreographed by symmetrical curved steps and the interplay of light and shadow, with the company’s story subtly carved into the architecture itself.
The exhibition hall’s layout is designed to elevate the perception of industrial products to the level of fine art. A circular booth lifts hydraulic systems to eye level, inviting close inspection and appreciation. The main product line is presented along a curved wall, segmented into three thematic groups, each with distinct display heights to facilitate both overview and in-depth exploration. A viewing platform at the end of the hall offers a comprehensive perspective, culminating the visitor’s journey and reinforcing the interconnectedness of the space.
Li Chen’s design draws inspiration from the philosophies of architect Peter Zumthor, particularly the nuanced relationship between interior and exterior, public and private realms. The project’s five-month development involved rigorous material research and spatial calibration to ensure every detail resonated with Victor Hydraulics’ values of tenacity, professionalism, and forward-thinking innovation. The result is an exhibition hall that not only showcases products but also embodies the spirit and future aspirations of the company.
Victor Hydraulics’ exhibition hall stands as a testament to the transformative power of design in industrial contexts. By merging architectural ambition with material storytelling, the space offers visitors a profound and memorable engagement with the brand’s heritage and vision for the future.
