The global coffee market has seen a surge in creative packaging, yet Fabrika Coffee stands out by embracing both tradition and modernity. Eugene Wysota and Helen Trophimova, of W Design Bureau, set out to create packaging that appeals to classic coffee lovers and new-wave enthusiasts alike. Their vision was to communicate the enduring values of the brand through a fresh, minimalist visual language.
A defining feature of the Fabrika Coffee packaging is its decorative die-cut window, shaped to resemble coffee grinder blades—the brand’s logo symbol. This window offers a direct view of the coffee beans inside, reinforcing the product’s natural quality and creating a memorable shelf presence. The carefully curated color palette distinguishes different coffee varieties, while clear typography delivers essential information on roast and flavor profiles.
Sustainability and functionality are at the heart of the design. The packaging is produced using offset printing on high-quality recycled paper, with eco-friendly inks and a matte finish enhanced by UV varnish for durability. The inner surface is specially treated to preserve the coffee’s aroma, and a resealable ziplock ensures freshness and convenient reuse, catering to both home and café environments.
Technical specifications reveal thoughtful attention to detail: the packaging measures 120 mm x 80 mm x 250 mm, holds 250 grams of coffee, and uses 350 gsm recycled cardboard. The design process was informed by extensive research, including consumer surveys and analysis of both traditional and modern packaging trends. This data-driven approach led to the selection of minimalist aesthetics paired with functional elements like the signature window.
Overcoming challenges in balancing classic and contemporary styles, as well as navigating production constraints, the design team succeeded in delivering a product that is both visually striking and practical. The result is packaging that not only protects and preserves the coffee but also elevates the consumer experience through its innovative yet accessible design.
