Brown Brothers Limited Edition: A Multisensory Wine Experience

Scented ink packaging brings festive celebration to Asian markets

Brown Brothers Fruity Sparkling Moscato unveils a limited-edition packaging designed by Yiqi Tang and Zona Yuechen Guan, merging visual vibrancy with scent to redefine wine gifting and celebration in Asia.

The Brown Brothers Limited Edition packaging stands as a testament to the power of multisensory design in the wine industry. Drawing inspiration from tropical summer parties and the cherished concept of "reunion" in Asian culture, the designers sought to create an immersive experience that captures the energy of morning, twilight, and midnight festivities. This innovative approach not only enhances the product's appeal but also resonates deeply with consumers seeking memorable moments of togetherness.

Central to the design's uniqueness is the use of scented ink, a feature rarely seen in wine packaging. Each bottle variant is tailored to a specific time of day, releasing a distinctive fragrance that complements the visual theme. This interactive element transforms the act of unboxing and serving wine into a dynamic, festive ritual, engaging both sight and smell. The packaging's vibrant colors and dynamic patterns further amplify the celebratory atmosphere, ensuring the product stands out on the shelf and in social gatherings.

Production of the packaging leverages advanced printing techniques and eco-friendly, recyclable materials. The 750 ml bottles are crafted from durable glass, with high-quality graphics that maintain their appeal throughout handling and shipping. The inclusion of environmentally conscious materials aligns with growing consumer demand for sustainability, while the scented ink technology demonstrates a commitment to innovation and sensory engagement.

Extensive research underpinned the design process, including market analysis and consumer behavior studies focused on young adults in Asia. Findings revealed a strong preference for packaging that offers interactive and multisensory features, such as cold-activated and scented inks. These insights guided the development of a product that not only meets professional and industrial standards but also fosters emotional connections and festive enjoyment among consumers.

The project, realized in Shanghai between November 2023 and May 2024, overcame significant challenges in integrating multisensory elements and sustainable materials. The result is a limited-edition packaging that balances technical excellence with cultural relevance, earning the Iron A' Packaging Design Award in 2025 for its innovative approach and positive impact on lifestyle trends.

Brown Brothers Limited Edition demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate everyday products, turning a bottle of wine into a multisensory celebration. As consumer expectations evolve, such innovations set new benchmarks for engagement, sustainability, and emotional resonance in packaging design.
