Aquaventure: Portable Innovation in Outdoor Wound Care

Hydrogen peroxide generation brings advanced sterilization to the outdoors

Aquaventure, designed by Menghai Xia, Siyu Zang, and Qijun Nie, reimagines outdoor wound care by delivering on-demand hydrogen peroxide sterilization in a compact, rugged device. This innovation addresses the critical need for effective first aid solutions in remote and emergency environments, making advanced wound cleaning accessible wherever adventure leads.

Outdoor activities and emergency scenarios often present challenges where access to reliable wound care is limited. Aquaventure responds to this need by integrating a unique hydrogen peroxide generation system, inspired by the proven efficacy of hydrogen peroxide in sterilization. The device’s ability to produce this solution on demand eliminates the logistical difficulties of transporting and storing conventional disinfectants, ensuring that adventurers and first responders can address injuries swiftly and effectively.

What sets Aquaventure apart is its dual-layer sterilization approach. The device first employs silver ion technology to purify water, followed by the conversion of this purified water into low-concentration hydrogen peroxide. This ensures that the wound cleaning process is both safe and efficient, minimizing the risk of infection while protecting delicate tissue. The design’s compact form and intuitive operation make it a practical addition to any outdoor or emergency kit.

Material selection plays a significant role in Aquaventure’s durability and appeal. The black aluminum alloy casing provides robust impact resistance, ideal for rugged environments, while the dark orange transparent PVC water tank offers both functional water level visibility and a visual cue for safety. This combination of materials not only enhances the product’s longevity but also aligns with the aesthetic preferences of users seeking high-performance gear.

Research for Aquaventure included interviews with campers, motorcycle riders, and emergency personnel, revealing a widespread lack of portable first aid solutions. This insight drove the development of a device that could generate sterilizing agents from readily available water sources. Overcoming challenges such as precise hydrogen peroxide concentration and battery efficiency, the design team ensured that the device meets both medical and practical requirements.

Recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, Aquaventure exemplifies the integration of industry best practices with innovative technology. Its user-friendly interface, sustainable approach, and reliable performance make it an essential tool for anyone venturing into the outdoors or responding to emergencies, contributing to safer and more accessible wound care worldwide.

Aquaventure stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in addressing real-world challenges, offering a sustainable and effective solution for immediate wound care wherever it is needed.
