The Wen Shan Hai Moutai Experience Center stands as a testament to the enduring allure of China’s national liquor. Drawing inspiration from Moutai’s rich heritage, the center features a spacious dome and soft, elegant lighting, creating a ceremonial atmosphere that bridges ancient traditions with modern sensibilities. The design’s interplay of lines and forms establishes a modernist framework, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a sensory journey that celebrates both past and present.
Distinctive in its approach, Wen Shan Hai offers a tapestry of luxury experiences, from wine tastings and private banquets to exclusive clubs. The design intertwines the vibrant spirit of Chongqing with the brand culture of Moutai, serving as a cultural beacon that translates the city’s identity into a vivid, engaging environment. Interpretations of Eastern aesthetics explore the transcendence of region, time, and culture, creating a space that evokes powerful memories and emotional resonance.
The realization of this vision is evident in the hall’s layout, where display cabinets and tasting areas are arranged along a meandering route, guiding guests through a layered narrative. Ancient bronze surfaces provide a textured framework, underscoring the historical significance of Moutai, while the combination of metal and glass in the display cabinets softens the ambiance, harmonizing with the overall design. The atrium, enclosed by corridors and forming a regular square, echoes the rhythmic connections found in traditional architecture and Eastern art.
Technical specifications reveal a thoughtful integration of liquor and tea culture within an understated, timeless space. The roof tiles, overhanging eaves, and brackets reflect the elegance of Tang Dynasty design, while green hues dominate the palette, reminiscent of Longquan celadon and the undulating waves of a lake. The mirrored ceiling enhances the visual experience, expanding the sense of space and depth, and iconic Chongqing elements such as Chaotianmen and the Yangtze River Cableway are woven into the narrative, enriching the historical context.
Challenges in the design process were met with creative solutions, including a courtyard-style layout inspired by Eastern aesthetics, and themed private banquet rooms that embrace the atrium. Each room reflects unique regional and cultural elements, offering diners an immersive retreat into the essence of Eastern life. The reception area, adorned with green mountain wall fabric and an emerald stone-patterned front desk, evokes the soothing sounds of silk and bamboo, inviting guests to express their emotions freely.
Wen Shan Hai, completed in August 2024, has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award for its exceptional innovation and contribution to the advancement of interior design. The project not only honors the legacy of Moutai but also sets a new standard for experiential spaces, blending art, architecture, and culture into a harmonious whole.
In summary, Xiang Wang’s Wen Shan Hai elevates the experience of Moutai, offering a sophisticated environment where tradition and innovation coexist. The center stands as a cultural landmark, inviting visitors to savor the essence of Chongqing and the timeless spirit of Moutai in an atmosphere of elegance and tranquility.
