The Daydreamer rug, also known as “Hayalperest,” invites viewers into a reverie where the boundaries between day and night dissolve. Drawing from the symbolism of the sun, moon, and stars, the rug’s design weaves geometric shapes and celestial motifs into a visual narrative that evokes both modernity and nostalgia. This approach transforms the rug from a simple floor covering into a tapestry of shared memories and emotions, reflecting the warmth and intimacy of home life.
What distinguishes Daydreamer from conventional rugs is its unique production process. Crafted by three skilled artisans, the rug incorporates four distinct hand weaving techniques: Anatolian Knot, Cicim, Twill, and Shuttle Traditional Towel Weaving. Central to its identity is the Karacakilavuz Weaving Technique, a geographically indicated method exclusive to Turkey’s Tekirdag province. The combination of these methods, executed on traditional oak looms, results in a one-of-a-kind piece that celebrates both heritage and innovation.
The meticulous creation process involves producing three separate woven panels, each hand-embroidered and joined asymmetrically with a knitted wool chain. The finishing touches—hand-attached fringes and a cotton lining—underscore the commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability. Only natural dyes are used, and each rug is made to order, ensuring exclusivity and minimal environmental impact.
Daydreamer’s design journey began with digital renderings and careful pattern coding, followed by weeks of experimentation to determine the optimal weaving techniques. The challenge lay in achieving visual continuity across the three panels, demanding precision and creative problem-solving. The result is a seamless composition that embodies the designers’ vision of unity and tranquility.
Produced in Buruz’s pioneering workshop in Tekirdag, the rug not only preserves traditional craft but also supports sustainable employment for women artisans. The workshop is recognized as the first in Turkey dedicated to Karacakilavuz Weaving, reinforcing the rug’s cultural and social significance.
Daydreamer has garnered industry recognition, earning the Iron A’ Design Award in 2025 for its innovative blend of artistry and technical excellence. As a limited-edition, custom-made piece, it stands as an emblem of the beauty found in daily transitions and the enduring power of handcrafted design.
Daydreamer exemplifies how contemporary design can honor tradition while fostering innovation, offering a meaningful addition to any interior and inviting reflection on the artistry woven into everyday life.
