Jeff Wu’s vegetable cooking oil packaging stands out for its commitment to sustainability and modern aesthetics. Inspired by the concept of “lightness,” the design features green leaves and product imagery forming an infinity symbol, visually reinforcing the low-carbon, environmentally friendly ethos. The packaging’s light and natural appearance is matched by its practical benefits—easy to carry, use, and recycle—making it a thoughtful response to growing consumer demand for eco-conscious products.
Unlike traditional oil bottles, this packaging adopts a square paper box form, which not only distinguishes it on the shelf but also enhances functionality. The carton is made from low-carbon, recyclable materials, significantly reducing environmental impact. According to the design team, the new material excels at preserving food freshness, ensuring the oil’s quality over time. Its lightweight, unbreakable nature also minimizes transportation burdens and risks, while the square shape allows for efficient stacking and storage.
The design process was grounded in research focused on low-carbon solutions. Experiments led to the selection of a paper box that aligns with both ecological values and product preservation needs. The result is packaging that is visually appealing and functionally superior, offering a fresh take on everyday essentials. The product name area utilizes a clear, functional design language, making information easily identifiable for consumers.
One of the main challenges faced by the design team was identifying materials that could embody the low-carbon concept without compromising on performance. Through creative problem-solving and rigorous testing, the team achieved a balance between sustainability, durability, and user experience. The project, which began in July 2013 and launched in September, demonstrates how thoughtful design can drive both environmental progress and market differentiation.
This innovative packaging has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, a testament to its integration of best practices, technical excellence, and positive impact. As consumers increasingly seek products that align with their values, Jeff Wu’s vegetable oil packaging sets a new standard for responsible, forward-thinking design in the food industry.
By reimagining everyday packaging with sustainability and practicality at its core, this project not only reduces environmental impact but also elevates the consumer experience, pointing the way toward a greener future in product design.
