Solid Order, a fine jewelry brand from China, has introduced a packaging concept that challenges traditional notions of luxury presentation. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s signature geometric motifs—squares and circles—the design echoes the minimalist aesthetics found in the works of photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. This approach infuses the packaging with a sense of mysterious beauty, aligning it with contemporary art and architectural sensibilities.
The packaging stands out for its unique blend of form and function. Crafted to resemble an installation artwork, the box features a semi-transparent frosted acrylic body encased in textured specialty paper. The visual language is intentionally neutral and architectural, reflecting the brand’s commitment to timeless elegance. The packaging is designed not only to protect and display jewelry but also to serve as a keepsake or storage box, ensuring its relevance long after the jewelry has been removed.
Adaptability is a key strength of the Solid Order design. The velvet insert, initially intended for rings, can be easily swapped for holders tailored to necklaces or earrings. This modular approach allows the packaging to accommodate various product types with minimal adjustments, enhancing both sustainability and user experience. The dimensions—95mm on each side—offer a compact yet substantial presence, suitable for a range of jewelry pieces.
Interaction plays a central role in the user experience. Opening the textured paper outer layer reveals the acrylic “art piece” within, while a clearly defined dividing line guides the user on how to access the contents. Embedded magnets in the top and bottom halves ensure a secure closure, creating a satisfying tactile sensation each time the box is opened or closed. Once the velvet holder is removed, the hollow space transforms into a functional storage box, extending the life and utility of the packaging.
The development process involved overcoming significant technical and creative challenges. Achieving a seamless transition between the paper and acrylic layers, designing an intuitive opening mechanism, and ensuring the jewelry’s stability required close collaboration with clients and suppliers. Multiple prototypes and refinements led to a final product that balances aesthetic appeal with practical considerations.
Solid Order’s innovative packaging has garnered international recognition, winning the prestigious Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2025. This accolade highlights the design’s impact on advancing art, science, and technology within the luxury goods sector, setting a new standard for how jewelry can be presented and cherished.
Solid Order demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform everyday objects into enduring works of art, inviting users to appreciate both the jewelry and the packaging as integral parts of a refined lifestyle.
