The Goldwin Headquarters, designed by Good Place and Maf, stands as a testament to the evolving landscape of office interiors. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s core concepts—“Life with Nature,” “Do More with Less,” and “Dedication to Detail”—the design envisions the six-story building as a “strongly growing tree.” Each floor presents a unique spatial composition, fostering creativity while nurturing a sense of unity with nature and among employees.
This project distinguishes itself through the use of traditional Japanese techniques such as plastering and mud walls, alongside the concept of borrowed scenery. Every finishing material is natural, reflecting a deep commitment to authenticity. The meticulous application of plaster on floors and furniture underscores a respect for craftsmanship, while the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces cultivates openness and harmony with the urban environment.
The realization of the design is evident from the entrance, where a textured rammed earth finish and irregularly shaped natural stones evoke vitality and contrast with sleek ceiling lighting. Select floors feature abundant wood for comfort, while others embrace minimalism with exposed base materials like light gauge steel (LGS), resulting in a diverse yet cohesive office environment. The headquarters spans an impressive 41,500mm by 55,400mm by 21,185mm, offering 6,000 square meters of unified workspace.
Functionality is tailored to the needs of each floor. The adjacency of the press room and coworking space encourages dynamic communication, while upper floors offer minimalist interiors and adaptable furnishings to support creative collaboration. Over 80% of the furniture was reused from previous offices, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and thoughtful resource management.
Research for the project included site visits to Goldwin’s stores and labs, as well as field studies of the surrounding Tokyo environment. The design team utilized 3D rendering tools to align their vision with client expectations and meticulously arranged natural veneers for visual continuity. Overcoming the challenge of working with non-uniform materials, the designers ensured that every element contributed to a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
The Goldwin Headquarters not only serves as a platform for communication and global outreach but also exemplifies how office design can embody brand values and environmental consciousness. Recognized with the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025, the project sets a new standard for excellence in workplace innovation and artistry.
