Terra Cascade: Harmonizing Architecture with Nature in Taipei

Innovative residential design redefines adaptable living and natural integration.

Rooted in the rhythms of nature, Terra Cascade by Jimmy Yung exemplifies a new era of residential architecture that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor living, offering a dynamic and sustainable home environment in Taipei’s lush Neihu District.

Terra Cascade stands as a testament to the evolving relationship between architecture and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the interplay of light, materials, and spatial flow, the design blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. Expansive windows and open balconies invite the changing seasons into daily life, while the residence’s layout balances privacy, interaction, and panoramic views. This approach reflects a forward-thinking vision for harmonious coexistence, where living spaces become an ongoing dialogue with nature.

The residence distinguishes itself through its interlocking volumetric design, a feature that reimagines vertical living. Rotating balconies not only refine the entry of natural light but also foster interaction between floors, creating a sense of connected privacy. The interior is crafted for adaptability, supporting the evolving needs of multi-generational households. Forested vistas are integrated into the living experience, reinforcing a deep connection to the surrounding landscape and offering a glimpse into the future of residential design.

Sustainability is at the core of Terra Cascade’s realization. The structure incorporates low carbon stone and renewable timber, underscoring a commitment to environmental responsibility. The layered façade, defined by linear textures, presents a cohesive visual identity, while steel staircases and reinforced concrete columns provide both strength and elegance. Balconies transition from opaque to transparent materials, enhancing spatial flow and reinforcing the home’s connection to its hillside environment. Inside, magnetic track lighting and smart glass technologies ensure adaptability and a soft, modern ambiance after sunset.

Spanning five stories and 105 square meters, the residence features five bedrooms, two living rooms, and six bathrooms, all distributed within a thoughtfully vertical layout. Each floor is uniquely designed for flexible use, accommodating the diverse needs of larger households. The rooftop terrace offers sweeping views of Taipei, providing a tranquil retreat that transitions seamlessly from social gatherings to private relaxation.

The design process was informed by extensive research into spatial adaptability, sustainability, and user satisfaction. Aerial analyses, material testing, and resident feedback shaped the final outcome, resulting in enhanced energy efficiency and a model for sustainable living. Overcoming challenges posed by steep terrain and regulatory constraints, the project’s interlocking volumes and transitional zones set a new standard for adaptable, multi-generational homes.

Terra Cascade’s innovative approach has garnered international recognition, earning the Silver A' Design Award in 2025 for its outstanding technical and artistic achievements. This residence not only redefines the possibilities of urban hillside living but also serves as an inspiring blueprint for future residential architecture that prioritizes harmony with nature and adaptability for modern lifestyles.
