Spring Dance: A Multifunctional Ode to Ballet and Renewal

Mehragin Rahmati’s award-winning necklace redefines versatility in high jewelry.

Inspired by ballet and the gentle hues of spring, Mehragin Rahmati’s “Spring Dance” necklace captures the essence of transformation, love, and hope through innovative design and masterful craftsmanship.

The “Spring Dance” necklace stands out as a testament to artistic ingenuity, drawing inspiration from the graceful movements of ballet and ribbon dance. The design tells the story of a ballerina’s journey, symbolizing the blossoming of love with the return of spring. Delicate motifs and figures evoke the rejuvenating energy of ribbons in motion, infusing the piece with poetic elegance.

What distinguishes this creation is its remarkable versatility. The necklace seamlessly transforms into six distinct forms: a tiara, two pendants, two necklace styles, and a ring. Central to its charm are a spinning ballerina and a mechanically blooming flower, both engineered with intricate mechanisms. This multifunctionality not only enhances wearability but also positions the piece as an eco-friendly and cost-effective choice for diverse occasions.

Handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, the necklace employs both traditional and innovative techniques. Casting is used for certain components, while enameling provides vibrant color and durability. A series of springs and delicate locks enable effortless transformation, allowing each part to attach or detach with precision. The result is a jewelry piece that adapts to the wearer’s mood and style, embodying both artistry and practicality.

Extensive research underpinned the development of “Spring Dance.” Multiple prototypes were created to perfect the ribbon’s curve and ensure flexibility for its tiara form. The design team experimented with various color combinations for the enameling and refined the internal mechanisms to guarantee smooth operation of the blooming flower and spinning ballerina. Achieving dimension sensitivity to less than a micrometer, each lock and connection was crafted for flawless integration.

The challenges faced during production were significant, particularly in achieving the precise fit required for the necklace’s many forms. The enameling process involved dividing the piece into eighty sections, each contoured to fit the overall design. Maintaining the integrity of the spinning and blooming mechanisms demanded repeated adjustments and expert craftsmanship, ultimately resulting in a piece that exemplifies technical and artistic excellence.

Recognized with the Platinum A’ Design Award in 2025, “Spring Dance” by Mehragin Rahmati is celebrated as a world-class example of innovation in jewelry design. Its transformative nature, inspired narrative, and sustainable approach set a new standard for high jewelry, making it a defining aesthetic of its era.
