Fishing enthusiasts often struggle with the inconvenience and fragility of traditional rods, especially when traveling or exploring remote locations. Szabolcs Nemeth’s Wormy offers a solution that redefines the fishing experience. Inspired by personal frustrations with broken rods and cumbersome equipment, Nemeth set out to design a system as adaptable and robust as a Swiss army knife. The result is a modular rod that fits in a pocket, ready for immediate use in any environment.
Central to Wormy’s innovation is its CNC-machined aluminum reel seat, featuring a unique removable trigger. This allows the rod to accommodate both top and bottom-mounted reels, a feature previously unavailable in compact systems. The threaded shaft at one end accepts various handles, while the opposite end fits interchangeable spring poles. This modularity means anglers can customize their setup for different fishing methods, casting weights, and environments, from shorelines to kayaks, and even underwater.
Wormy’s construction emphasizes longevity and sustainability. The Classic Range incorporates stainless steel spring rods, seawater-resistant 6061 T6 aluminum, and hardwood handles, resulting in a nearly unbreakable tool designed to last decades. The upcoming Black Range ONE introduces cork composite handles and injection-molded carbon composite reel seats, making the system more affordable and accessible without sacrificing resilience. All materials, including recycled polyamide 6, are chosen for their recyclability and environmental responsibility.
The rod’s operation is intuitive, mirroring conventional fishing rods but enhanced by a stainless steel spring that acts as both the casting mechanism and line guide. This design enables versatile casting techniques—overhead, sidearm, or underhand—while the compact size and modular components allow for seamless adaptation to any fishing scenario. The system’s durability and adaptability make it suitable for year-round use, from ice fishing in winter to snorkel fishing in summer.
Wormy’s development was underpinned by extensive research and a nearly nine-year patenting process, culminating in global protection for its innovative reel seat and modular design. The product’s excellence has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A’ Design Award in 2025, highlighting its impact on outdoor gear and lifestyle innovation. As a result, Wormy stands as a testament to inventive thinking, offering anglers a reliable, sustainable, and versatile companion for every adventure.
Wormy’s success demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform everyday experiences, encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to explore new horizons with confidence and ease.
