In the heart of Taiwan, “Micro and Macro” by Woo Ta Chuan reimagines residential living for a family of four. Spanning 88.5 square meters, this award-winning apartment design addresses the evolving needs of a young family, focusing on durability, warmth, and adaptability. The project’s thoughtful approach to space planning and Feng Shui ensures a harmonious environment, supporting both daily routines and long-term growth.
The design stands out through its comprehensive treatment of all six sides of each room, creating a seamless visual flow. By leveraging the natural divisions formed by ceiling beams and columns, Woo Ta Chuan softens transitions with gentle arcs, resolving geomantic concerns while enhancing the overall ambiance. The interplay of circular motifs, warm Maillard-inspired tones, and strategic lighting crafts a soft, inviting atmosphere throughout the home.
Functionality is at the core of “Micro and Macro.” The vestibule area is cleverly extended and equipped with multi-purpose cabinetry, optimizing storage and maintaining a tidy entrance. In the living room, artistic elements such as wooden grilles, stone grain finishes, and leather-clad walls double as storage solutions, broadening the visual field and ensuring practicality without sacrificing style.
Adaptability extends to the private quarters, where the original four-room layout was reconfigured to create a spacious master bedroom and a dedicated dressing room. Sliding doors and repositioned entryways facilitate a smooth flow, while soft materials and subtle color accents foster a restful environment. Feng Shui principles guide the placement of key elements, ensuring comfort and positive energy.
The dining area exemplifies the project’s attention to detail. Integrated outlets, storage for food preparation, and a glass display for vintage wines cater to the family’s lifestyle. The mini bar effect, enhanced by tea mirrors and white wooden grilles, seamlessly connects the dining space to the kitchen, reinforcing the sense of unity and openness.
“Micro and Macro” received the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2025, recognized for its creative ingenuity and commitment to improving quality of life. Woo Ta Chuan’s design not only meets the immediate needs of its residents but also anticipates future growth, setting a benchmark for residential innovation in contemporary Taiwan.
This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform limited space into a lasting, adaptable home, blending tradition, innovation, and artistry to support family life for years to come.
