Blur Coffee Table Captures Fleeting Moments in Design

Dhruv Agarwwal’s award-winning table explores perception and memory

Blur, designed by Dhruv Agarwwal, redefines the boundaries of furniture by transforming steel mesh and Meena enamel into a poetic meditation on time, memory, and perception.

Dhruv Agarwwal’s Blur coffee table stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and craftsmanship. Conceived in Moradabad, the design emerged from a partnership with skilled Meena artisans, whose expertise in enamel work brought new life to the steel mesh structure. The result is a piece that not only serves a functional purpose but also invites viewers to reflect on the ever-changing nature of human emotions and memories.

The table’s unique character lies in its innovative use of materials and techniques. A thicker-than-usual coat of Meena enamel was developed specifically for this project, adding depth and vibrancy to the steel mesh. The interplay between the precisely cut mesh and the organic, hand-applied enamel creates a dynamic visual effect—colors appear and vanish, echoing the fleeting quality of recollections and feelings.

Blur’s form is intentionally ambiguous, encouraging observers to engage with its shifting appearance. This design philosophy challenges traditional notions of permanence in furniture, instead celebrating the beauty of impermanence and the fluidity of perspective. The table becomes more than an object; it is a narrative in steel and enamel, capturing moments that might otherwise slip away.

Technically, Blur measures 112x56x45 cm and incorporates steel, Meena enamel, and acrylic. The meticulous process behind its creation required months of dedication, with each element carefully crafted to achieve the desired effect. The imperfections of the enamel, rather than being concealed, are highlighted as integral to the table’s identity, reinforcing the theme of embracing transience.

This innovative approach has not gone unnoticed. Blur was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2025, a recognition reserved for creations that advance art, science, and technology while leaving a significant impact on the world of design. The accolade underscores the table’s status as a trendsetting piece that bridges tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and concept.

Blur exemplifies how furniture can transcend utility to become a vessel for storytelling and introspection. Through its shifting forms and evocative materials, the design encourages a deeper appreciation for the moments that define human experience—reminding viewers that even the most transient emotions can be made timeless.
