The Bosphorus House stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of past and present. Architect Ayse Kubilay drew inspiration from Istanbul’s historical layers and mid-century aesthetics, seamlessly integrating these influences into a modern context. The result is an interior that respects its origins while embracing the needs and comforts of contemporary life. Contrasts in materials—marble, glass, and sustainable woods—create a refined atmosphere, ensuring the design will remain relevant for years to come.
Distinguished by its panoramic Bosphorus views, the residence offers a sense of tranquility and luxury. The renovation prioritized open spaces and natural light, crafting an environment that feels expansive and welcoming. The entrance acts as a threshold, transporting visitors from Istanbul’s vibrant energy into a serene oasis. Spanning three floors, the home features distinct areas for entertaining and family gatherings, each oriented to maximize the breathtaking vistas and connection to the outdoors.
The ground floor is dedicated to family life, opening onto a lush garden and infinity pool, while the main entry level is designed for social occasions, complete with living and dining areas that flow seamlessly into one another. Additional amenities include a cinema room, gym, guest suite, and a master bedroom with a private terrace, all meticulously planned to enhance comfort and functionality. The layout emphasizes accessibility and fluid movement between spaces, ensuring each room enjoys natural light and captivating views.
Technical innovation is at the heart of the renovation. The original structure was stripped to its core, retaining only essential columns and beams. This allowed for a reimagined floor plan that prioritizes user experience and sustainability. The use of energy-efficient smart home technology and natural, locally sourced materials underscores a commitment to environmental responsibility. The 1000sqm interior and 2000sqm exterior living spaces were carefully designed to offer residents a unique and luxurious lifestyle.
The transformation of the Bosphorus House overcame significant challenges, including the removal of outdated classical elements and the complete reconfiguration of the interior layout. The project’s success lies in its ability to merge the building’s historical character with innovative solutions, resulting in a residence that is both timeless and forward-looking. Recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2025, the Bosphorus House exemplifies excellence in interior architecture, setting a new standard for luxury living in Istanbul.
Ayse Kubilay’s vision for the Bosphorus House demonstrates how thoughtful design can honor history while embracing modernity. The project not only provides a sanctuary for its residents but also serves as an inspiring example of how architecture can shape lifestyle, comfort, and well-being in the heart of a dynamic city.
