SkinAI, designed by Melisa Aksun, addresses the growing demand for personalized skincare solutions. Inspired by the desire to simplify the journey toward healthier skin, the tool leverages the ubiquity of mobile devices to provide users with instant, expert-level analysis at their fingertips. The project’s inception in Istanbul in early 2024 was driven by extensive research into user frustrations with existing skin analysis tools, aiming to create a product that is both technologically advanced and approachable.

What sets SkinAI apart is its seamless, mobile-first design and intuitive user experience. Users are guided through a straightforward process: answering targeted questions, taking a guided selfie, and receiving a detailed health report covering six key skin concerns. Advanced AI algorithms analyze the uploaded photo, delivering precise scores and actionable insights. The interface, developed using Figma and refined through iterative user testing, ensures accessibility and clarity across devices.

SkinAI’s integration with e-commerce platforms further enhances its value. After analysis, users receive personalized product recommendations, with the option to explore or shop directly within the platform. This streamlined approach not only fosters trust through accurate, relatable insights but also transforms the way consumers engage with skincare products online.

The development process prioritized inclusivity and technical excellence. Melisa Aksun and her team sourced diverse datasets to ensure accurate analysis across a wide range of skin tones. Visual assets were generated using AI tools and finalized in Photoshop, resulting in a polished, user-friendly interface. Usability testing, conducted remotely with digital collaboration tools, played a crucial role in refining navigation and responsiveness.

SkinAI’s innovative approach has been recognized with the Bronze A' Digital Product Design Award in 2025, honoring its creative ingenuity and positive impact on quality of life.
