The Frozen pendant lamp collection stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of nature and technology. Drawing inspiration from the vast forests and snow-covered vistas of the north, Alexey Danilin sought to encapsulate these impressions within a functional art piece. The design process began with a fragment of a tree, which was meticulously 3D scanned and digitally refined to enhance its natural patterns. This approach allowed for the creation of cast glass elements that not only reflect the intricate textures of wood but also interact with light in a captivating manner.
What distinguishes the Frozen collection is its commitment to authenticity and sensory appeal. The glass components are crafted in hues reminiscent of winter—transparent, green-blue, and matte white—evoking the colors of icy landscapes. The light source, a discreet G4 bulb, is cleverly concealed within a matte-finished opening, ensuring the illumination remains soft and diffused. This detail prevents visual distraction and enhances the lamp’s sculptural qualities, making it both a lighting solution and a tactile object of art.
The realization of the Frozen lamps involved overcoming significant technical challenges. Cast glass, known for its weight and fragility, required precise engineering to ensure secure mounting and optimal light diffusion. The design team, including engineer Nikita Morozov and product manager Elena Slivka, developed specialized fasteners and calculated the ideal glass thickness to balance durability with aesthetic refinement. The result is a pendant lamp that seamlessly integrates into diverse interior styles while maintaining a strong connection to its natural inspiration.
Research played a pivotal role in shaping the collection. Studies into human associations with northern nature revealed a preference for organic forms and cool color palettes, guiding the selection of materials and finishes. The tactile complexity of the glass, achieved through manual intervention after digital modeling, ensures each piece offers a unique sensory experience. This thoughtful approach has garnered industry recognition, with the Frozen collection receiving the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2025 for its technical excellence and artistic innovation.
Exhibited at Interlight in Moscow, the Frozen pendant lamp collection exemplifies how contemporary design can bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. By bringing elements of the northern wilderness indoors, Alexey Danilin’s creation invites users to experience the tranquility and wonder of nature through the lens of cutting-edge craftsmanship.
The Frozen collection not only illuminates spaces but also offers a poetic reminder of the beauty found in the natural world, encouraging a deeper appreciation for both design and the environment.
