Foogo stands out as a packaging concept inspired by the vibrant world of Korean mobile food stalls and trucks. While dishes like bibimbap and bulgogi are celebrated worldwide, lesser-known Korean street snacks such as gamja hotdog and dalgona hold deep cultural significance. Jiwon Jung’s vision for Foogo was to encapsulate the nostalgia and excitement of enjoying these snacks on bustling streets, making the experience accessible to international consumers through thoughtful design.
What distinguishes Foogo is its departure from conventional box packaging. The design mimics the playful shapes of food trucks—caravans, vans, and trailers—creating an intuitive, immersive unboxing experience. Each package features a detachable handle for portability and a serving window-like opening mechanism, simulating the act of purchasing from a real food truck. These elements transform Foogo into more than just packaging; it becomes a storytelling device that invites users to engage with Korean culture on multiple sensory levels.
Foogo’s production process prioritizes sustainability and efficiency. Crafted from eco-friendly paperboard, the packaging is both lightweight and durable. Precision die-cutting ensures structural stability, while offset printing with matte and gloss finishes enhances tactile appeal. The foldable design allows for easy assembly, and the reinforced handle adds convenience, aligning with contemporary eco-conscious trends in packaging design.
Research played a crucial role in Foogo’s development. Studies highlighted the importance of packaging in cultural storytelling and consumer engagement, particularly for global audiences unfamiliar with Korean street food. Prototypes and surveys confirmed that interactive, culturally immersive packaging significantly enhances emotional connection and brand perception. This research-driven approach ensured that Foogo resonates with both local nostalgia and international curiosity.
Foogo’s journey from concept to award-winning design was not without challenges. Translating the dynamic energy of food trucks into functional, stable packaging required multiple prototypes and material innovations. Balancing cultural authenticity with universal appeal was essential. The result is a visually striking, practical solution that bridges tradition and modernity, earning Foogo the Iron A’ Packaging Design Award in 2025 for its originality and technical excellence.
Foogo exemplifies how design can elevate everyday experiences, transforming packaging into a meaningful cultural encounter. By merging storytelling, sustainability, and functionality, Jiwon Jung’s creation invites the world to savor the essence of Korean street food in a truly innovative way.
