Beykoz Mansions: Artful Living in Istanbul’s Green Heart

Serpil Senyuz crafts a modern Art Deco retreat for a vibrant family

Inspired by a family's love for travel and art, Beykoz Mansions by Serpil Senyuz transforms residential living into a sophisticated sanctuary, blending modern Art Deco elegance with functional design tailored to family life.

Set amidst the lush landscapes of Istanbul’s Beykoz district, Beykoz Mansions stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of art, architecture, and lifestyle. Designed by Serpil Senyuz, this 600-square-metre residence reimagines family living, offering a resort-like ambience that opens to tranquil forest views. The home’s aesthetic draws from modern Art Deco, characterized by soft transitions, pure colors, and natural materials, all seamlessly integrated with custom-designed furniture. Artworks curated by the family are thoughtfully displayed, especially in the double-height living area, which serves as the vibrant heart of the home.

What distinguishes Beykoz Mansions is its meticulous attention to both communal and private spaces. The open-plan living area, crowned by a gallery ceiling, is designed for gatherings and daily interaction, while each floor is carefully zoned to provide privacy for every family member. The master suite occupies an entire floor, featuring a secret door and a private bar area, while the upper levels are dedicated to children’s bedrooms and a playful attic retreat. This spatial choreography ensures that the home adapts to the evolving needs of a family of five, offering both connection and solitude.

The renovation involved significant structural changes, including the extension of the kitchen, conversion of the garage into a cinema room, and the merging of staircases for improved access. The gallery above the fireplace was partially enclosed to expand the master bedroom and create a dedicated dressing room. These thoughtful interventions not only enhanced functionality but also elevated the sense of grandeur, particularly in the main living area where a double-height ceiling adds depth and drama.

Serpil Senyuz’s approach was rooted in user-centric research, involving detailed interviews and surveys to understand the family’s lifestyle and preferences. This informed the layout, which balances open communal zones with secluded quarters. The design also overcame technical challenges, such as leveling the ground floor with a small excavator to achieve uniformity and increased ceiling height—a solution that ultimately became a defining feature of the space.

Beykoz Mansions has garnered international recognition, earning the Silver A' Design Award in 2025 for its creative excellence and innovative approach to residential design. The project exemplifies how thoughtful architecture and interior design can create a timeless, luxurious backdrop for modern family life, where art and daily living are seamlessly intertwined.

As a model of contemporary residential design, Beykoz Mansions invites admiration for its blend of artistry, innovation, and meticulous planning—offering inspiration for those seeking to elevate everyday living through design.
