Electraline: Redefining Urban EV Charging Infrastructure

Modular, sustainable, and user-focused charging stations for modern cities

Electraline, designed by Valeriia Ilicheva and Antoine Questel, introduces a new era of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by blending advanced technology with sustainable materials and user-centric design. This award-winning project stands out as a forward-thinking solution for urban environments, addressing the growing demand for accessible, efficient, and visually appealing charging stations.

At the heart of Electraline is a commitment to approachability and sustainability. Inspired by Electra’s core values, the design prioritizes simplicity and elegance, ensuring that every interaction is intuitive for EV drivers. The modular system allows for seamless adaptation to various locations, from compact city installations to expansive charging hubs, all while maintaining a cohesive and inviting visual identity.

Distinctive features set Electraline apart from conventional charging stations. The use of warm, eco-friendly materials such as responsibly sourced wood and sleek aluminum not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures harmony with urban surroundings. Integrated LED screens provide real-time information on charging status, availability, and pricing, making the user experience both informative and stress-free.

Scalability is a defining strength of Electraline. Starting with a base module, the system can expand to include additional charging points and an optional canopy equipped with solar panels. This solar integration supports renewable energy use, reinforcing the project’s dedication to environmental responsibility. The modular construction also simplifies assembly and maintenance, allowing cities to adapt infrastructure as demand evolves.

User comfort is central to the Electraline experience. Thoughtful amenities such as comfortable seating and shaded waiting areas invite users to relax while their vehicles charge. The intuitive interface, supported by energy-efficient LED displays and integrated speakers, ensures that users remain informed and engaged throughout the process.

The development of Electraline was guided by extensive research and user feedback, resulting in a solution that balances technical innovation with practical needs. The project overcame significant challenges, particularly in creating a system that is both modular and instantly recognizable. The result is a future-proof infrastructure that supports the transition to sustainable mobility while enhancing the urban landscape.

Electraline’s debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2024 marked a milestone in public infrastructure design. With deployment set to begin across Europe in 2025, starting in France, Belgium, Italy, and Spain, Electraline is poised to become a benchmark for smart, sustainable, and user-friendly EV charging solutions. This Golden A' Design Award-winning project exemplifies how thoughtful design can drive positive change in cities worldwide.
