Funny Eye Macau Sparkling reimagines beverage packaging by blending architectural inspiration and vibrant color palettes, offering a unique visual identity in the competitive drinks market.

Chunyang Wang’s design for Funny Eye Macau Sparkling stands out in the world of drink packaging by merging cultural heritage with contemporary aesthetics. This product line features three distinct flavors, each represented by a dopamine-inducing color palette that visually echoes the taste experience. The packaging’s focal point is the product name, transformed into a visual symbol through an enlarged, custom typeface with increased spacing and character length, ensuring immediate recognition and impact on the shelf.

The design draws inspiration from the iconic Ruins of St. Paul’s in Macau, a landmark that symbolizes the city’s rich history. By deconstructing the building’s architectural elements—such as curved, circular, and rectangular shapes from its columns and windows—these forms are recomposed into a modern visual language. This approach pays homage to Macau’s cultural legacy while introducing a fresh, contemporary style.

Adding a playful twist, the packaging incorporates visual cues inspired by the gaze found in the works of Italian artist Tullio Garbari. This fusion of Eastern and Western artistic influences results in a distinctive identity that captures Macau’s diverse spirit. The use of custom Chinese bold fonts further emphasizes the brand’s commitment to showcasing local culture on a global stage.

Technical specifications for the packaging include a diameter of 65mm and a height of 120mm, making the cans both practical and visually appealing. Designed in Hangzhou in May 2024, the project overcame creative challenges by simplifying complex architectural motifs into geometric shapes, balancing tradition with innovation.

Funny Eye Macau Sparkling’s design has been recognized with a Bronze A' Packaging Design Award in 2025, highlighting its excellence in creativity, technical execution, and contribution to quality of life. The brand’s unique approach not only sets it apart in the fast-moving consumer goods sector but also serves as a vibrant ambassador for Macau’s cultural charm.
